The Congo

Congo, its name is not derived from the river but from the great Kongo Kingdom, with its Kongo kings, ruling Central Africa for many, many centuries.

The once great Kongo kingdom, later divided by colonization into four independent states: Gabon – francophone, Republic of Congo – francophone, Democratic Republic of Congo – Belgian and Angola – lusaphone.
